Capstone Expands Southeast Asia Distribution -- Names Aqua Nishihara Its Distributor in Thailand

CHATSWORTH, Calif., June 2, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced it named Aqua Nishihara as its distributor in rapidly expanding Thailand.

Aqua Nishihara, headquartered in Bangkok, designs and manufactures wastewater treatment systems. In addition to selling Capstone microturbines for wastewater treatment systems, Aqua Nishihara will focus on opportunities with landfills, oil and gas operations, offshore oil rigs, agricultural/biogas and combined heat and power applications.

Water pollution is a key issue in Thailand, especially in the populous Central Region, where high levels of industrial and domestic wastewater exist. For several years, Thailand's government has invested heavily in wastewater treatment plants, with the goal being to construct enough plants to provide 65 percent of the population with treated water.

In addition, the Thai government has implemented a Strategic Plan for Renewable Energy Development to increase the renewable energy share of commercial primary energy to 8 percent by 2011.

"Aqua Nishihara has the experience and network to increase Capstone sales in this region," said Jim Crouse, Capstone's Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing. "With the government's focus on building wastewater treatment plants and increasing renewable energy opportunities, Capstone is well positioned to make an impact since our products emit extremely low emissions, are highly reliable and cost effective, and can run on a variety of fuels."

"Customers in Thailand want cost effective and highly reliable energy technologies that also have limited environmental impact," said Pawit Sudhawiyangkul, Aqua Nishihara Managing Director. "Although Thailand may be small in size, we're the 20th most populous country in the world, which means we must be smart in how we address energy issues. Capstone microturbines are the answer because they are environmentally friendly, highly reliable and efficient, offer modular design for easy installation, operate on a variety of fuels and can be used in co-generation and tri-generation applications," added Sudhawiyangkul.
